Historic building & brownstone restoration

Called MRW this past winter for an estimate for repointing the brick exterior, a cracked lintel replacement and a chimney rebuild for our historic home in Beacon Hill. Patrick the owner provided a well priced proposal for the spring. We scheduled a start date in May, he called a week in advance to confirm we were ready and showed up as promised. The on street scaffolding protected pedestrians, was well marked with safety tape etc.. Each day the work area was swept clean and the job proceeded to completion without interruption. The attention to detail including matching replaced stone and antique brick was what we had hoped for. After completion the final wash brought out the beauty of the 200 year old brick. Could not be more pleased with the work that was done for us by MRW. Patrick and his assistant are true craftsman of their trade.

Fantastic work on an old building with hard to source bricks! If you didn’t know work was done, you probably wouldn’t even notice the changes! Feels remarkable for the exterior of a building that is so old! Patrick sourced the right bricks, cut them down to size (smaller bricks used back then), and did a great installation!

Patrick was excellent and worked on my 1850 brick home in Charlestown. All of my masonry required cutting and pointing and the lintels and headers were also in need of work, etc. High quality finish! The Best!
He also broke down the work into two phases so I could afford to do it over two periods. The house looks gorgeous now and I highly recommend him to all my clients and colleagues. Patrick and his team were awesome to work with. From the start, Patrick responded quickly to my inquiry and scheduled an appointment to meet the next day. It was repointing two brownstones in Boston, and he gave me options on how to handle the project to make it more affordable. Compared to other quotes I had received, he was very fairly priced.

We hired MRW Contractors to do some repointing work for our Condo Building, the exterior is all brick. After meeting with a variety of masons and roofers, I couldn’t have been more pleased to meet Patrick. He came recommended by a friend.
From the start, Patrick was incredibly professional—he met with me promptly after our request and took plenty of time to thoroughly assess both the interior and exterior of the building.
We hired him specifically for brick repointing to help mitigate random leaking that had been occurring in multiple areas of the building. With brick it is very challenging to know how the water is getting in, repointing suspicious areas would have to be trial
and error. Patrick gave me confidence he would really try to find the root of the problem in each area.
While we did have to wait about 6–8 weeks to get on his schedule, the timing worked out perfectly for us. His pricing seemed honest and he helped us save a good deal of money (as compared to other bids) by getting us a boom lift vs paying to rent scaffolding.
Overall, Patrick delivered excellent service, was easy to work with, and helped us make thoughtful, informed decisions. We highly recommend him for any masonry needs

Patrick and his team repointed our entire church building. I found that they were sincere, friendly and easy to work with. Patrick was very considerate and addressed every bit of our concerns and made sure we were satisfied. He even repaired our church sign for free! I would recommend him to anyone who needs masonry work.

Patrick and his team at MRW repointed significant portions of our 100+ year old brick building (along with some minor concrete sidewalk work). As a 8 unit condo building repointing is a huge project so balancing high quality work and a reasonable price point is key - MRW delivered on both areas. While on-site MRW was very conscious of not disturbing residents and neighbors as best they could. Patrick is great to work with and the best contractor experience I've had. I had Patrick and his crew replace lintels on 5 windows that were in a bad shape. Those were the original to the property and at almost 80 years old. From start to finish and during the entire project Patrick was excellent at communicating what the next steps were. He was also easy to reach and was very proactive with calling and/or texting in advance. He and the crew always showed up on time and did a fabulous job. Lintel extraction and replacement is a tricky job that requires precision and craftsmanship. Raul who also worked on the project was outstanding. I was really impressed with how skilled he was at removing the bricks and being careful to not damaging the windows, which I just had recently replaced. After the project was complete the bricks had to dry for 10 days before being washed. Having seen how skillful and careful Patrick and team were I have decided to used them for few other projects in the coming months. Could not be more satisfied.

We had a large repointing challenge on our brick building here in Cambridge. Patrick and his crew did an excellent job erecting scaffolding, cooperating with neighbors, and working fast, neatly, and with great expertise. I highly recommend MRW.

We interviewed several contractors to repair our long, neglected foundation in Brookline--both inside our basement and outside the home itself. All of the contractors were knowledgeable, so our hire was based on the integrity with which Patrick talked about his work and his reasonable pricing. It was clear that he understood and respected the nuances of the job—and also that it was important to him that his crew does excellent work. He communicated well about the schedule, and his team worked methodically through an extensive, detail-oriented repointing of our old stone foundation. To my surprise, they cleaned up after themselves in a way that contractors seldom do. I paid him when the work appeared done to me. After that, he sent his crew by one more time for a final round of cleaning. That’s integrity. I showed the finished work to my neighbor, who hired MRW as well. Thanks, Patrick!

Did a great job of repointing my chimney. We’re very professional in the way everything was set up, and they cleaned up every day. Would definitely recommend them.
